University of Mississippi
Dr. Jason Hoeksema is a Professor of Biology at the University of Mississippi, where he teaches courses in Mycology, Ornithology, Meta-analysis, and Biometry. His research focuses on the ecological and evolutionary consequences of interactions among species, especially trees and their mycorrhizal fungi. He has published more than 60 scientific journal articles, and in 2024 received the University of Mississippi’s Faculty Achievement Award for Outstanding Teaching and Scholarship.
Preview:
The claim that seedling trees consistently benefit from resources transferred through shared (“common”) mycorrhizal networks (CMNs) from adult trees has taken root in popular media, but what does the science actually say? Join us as we explore the latest research challenging this narrative and the need for more nuanced studies to understand the complex interactions between fungi, roots, and trees.
