In 2016 the school began caring for the Forest, the first step was to begin removing privet. Okeena Park Arboretum is located in a ten-acre public park in the center of Dyersburg. Many of the trees are part of an old-growth forest with several aged white oaks being the centerpieces of the park. Trees now number 69 species. A mile-long walking trail enables visitors to view the trees, flower beds, and historical markers up close. Dyer County Master Gardeners, Dyersburg Garden Club, Good Earth Garden Club, and Dyersburg Parks and Recreation Department have planted and maintained the arboretum as well as provided funding. Dyer County Master Gardeners obtained a grant from Tennessee Urban Forestry Council to reforest the park in 2003. You may request a guided tour by calling 731/285-6420.

The City of Bolivar Pleasant Run Creek Park was established in 2013 by acquiring 167 acres from Western Mental Health Institute, a division of the State of Tennessee. The property had been owned by them since 1889. City officials and citizens had a vision to turn the property into a scenic rustic park featuring walking trails, disc golf course, arboretum and restrooms surrounded by a split rail fence. The park has an abundance of large trees, plants, wildlife and two small lakes. The arboretum will feature thirty-four trees on a 3/4 mile trail that will promote education, nature and exercise.

Carved from an 895-acre parcel of land located between Germantown and Collierville, Tennessee, Southwind is a gated, residential life-style community that includes a Tournament Players Club championship golf course. Southwind features a wide central boulevard that connects winding streets and cul d ‘sacs throughout the neighborhood. The gardens and tree canopies are among the most distinguishing elements of the community. Ridgetop Station Park, on the edge of the Highland Rim, is located in a 26-acre park encompassing woodlands; fields; an antebellum-styled house/museum; and playgrounds. The park is near the Ridgetop railroad tunnel constructed in 1902-1905 and used today. Ridgetop was a resort community in the late 19th-early 20th century for Nashville families seeking respite from heat and humidity at higher elevations. Many original summer cottages are near the park. The arboretum, maintained by Ridgetop volunteers and Robertson County Master Gardeners, contains over fifty tree and shrub specimens. USN was founded in 1915 as the Peabody Demonstration School. The arboretum consists of over 30 different species—most of which are native to Middle Tennessee—on a circular tour through the 8-acre main campus, which includes our Outdoor Classroom and pond. The White House Greenway Trail is a 3.5-mile trail that will in the near future totally encompass the inner city of White House. The trail meanders through various land types, from lowlands to uplands, and commercially developed to deep forest. Much of the trail is deep in a second-growth forest of yellow buckeye, American beech, yellow poplar, Northern red oak, hickory species, pawpaw, black tupelo, and over 50 more species. For many, the highlight of this self-guided walking tour is the Old Oak, a nearly 300-year-old white oak , which is one of TUFC’s landmark trees.
